I grew up with horses and various pets, at my Mum’s riding stables. I gained an NVQ level 1 and 2 in horse care and riding as part of my GCSE's, but decided that as I already had lots of experience with horses I would keep them as a hobby and wanted to start a career as a veterinary nurse.
Once I had finished school, the hunt was on to find a training practice, this proved very difficult. I went to Kingston Maurward College and gained a National Certificate for Veterinary Care Assistants and a certificate in Wildlife Rehabilitation and Management, alongside a 2 day placement in a local veterinary practice.
I then proceeded to start a pre vet nursing course which is recognised by the RCVS and can be completed even if the practice is not a registered training practice. This was a very good stepping stone and allowed me to be likely to be accepted in to a training practice where I would be able to gain my full qualification.
In 2009 i joined a training practice as Animal Nursing Assistant and begun my training to be a qualified veterinary nurse. In 2012 i qualified and am now very proud to have RVN after my name!
My interests at work include inpatient care, nurse clinics, dressing and wound management.
Outside work I enjoy walking my 2 dogs Rufus and Fizz.
